The Angels Jobs

Some of the Angels' Jobs Mentioned in the Qur'an and Sunnah

Gabriel, peace be upon him

The One Entrusted with Revelation
God Almighty said:
"Say, 'Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel - it is he who has brought the Qur'an down to your heart by
permission of God.'" [Al-Baqarah: 97]

Michael, peace be upon him
He is the one in charge of rain and clouds and their movements as God commands him.
In Sunan al-Tirmidhi, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: "Thunder is an angel of God in charge of the clouds. He has whips of fire with which he drives the clouds wherever God wills."

"Mikhraq" is a tool.

Israfil, peace be upon him

The One Charged with Blowing the Trumpet
It is authentically reported in the hadith that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: "How can I enjoy myself when the One with the Trumpet has grasped the horn, bent his forehead, and listened attentively, awaiting the command to blow it?!" The Muslims asked: "What should we say, O Messenger of God?" He said: "Say: 'God is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. We put our trust in God, our Lord.'" Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: "The eye of the One with the Trumpet, since he was charged with it, has been ready to look toward the Throne, fearing that he will be commanded before he can blink again. His eyes are as if his eyes were two shining stars." The meaning of "the eye of the One with the Trumpet" is the side of the eye; that is, he looks toward the Throne with the side of his eye.

Those charged with taking the souls
He is the "Angel of Death," and he has helpers.

Allah the Almighty said:
“Say, 'The Angel of Death who is set over you will take you, then to your Lord you will be returned.'” [As-Sajdah: 11]

And Allah the Almighty said, describing His helpers:
“Until, when death comes to one of you, Our messengers take him, and they do not fail.” [Al-An'am: 61]

And Allah the Almighty said:
“And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieve, they strike their faces.” And their backs (Al-Anfal: 50)

It was reported in the hadith of Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him): They come to the servant according to his deeds. If he is a righteous person, angels with white faces and white clothes come to him and sit near him as far as the eye can see. If he is not, angels with black faces and black clothes come to him and sit near him as far as the eye can see. Then, when the Angel of Death takes the servant's soul, the angels do not leave it in his hand for the blink of an eye, but rather place it in a shroud according to his deeds. If he was a righteous person, then it is in a shroud from the shrouds of Paradise and in a shroud from the shrouds of Paradise. If he is not, then it is placed in sackcloth, which are the coarse garments carried by the angels of punishment.

It was reported in the hadith of Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him): They come to the servant according to his deeds. If he was a righteous person, angels with white faces and white clothes will come to him and sit as far away from him as the eye can see. If he was not, angels with black faces and black clothes will come to him and sit as far away from him as the eye can see. Then, when the Angel of Death takes the soul of the servant, the angels do not leave it in his hand for the blink of an eye, but rather place it in a shroud according to his deeds. If he was a righteous person, then it will be in a shroud from the shrouds of Paradise and in a shroud from the shrouds of Paradise. If he was not, then it will be placed in sackcloth, which are the coarse garments carried by the angels of punishment. As for the souls of the unbelievers and the wicked, they are violently taken away.

God Almighty says:
“And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death while the angels are stretching out their hands, [saying], ‘Bring forth your souls! Today you will be recompensed with a humiliating punishment for what you used to say about God other than the truth and for being arrogant toward His signs.’” (Al-An’am: 93)

And God Almighty says:
“And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved.” They will strike their faces and their backs, and taste the punishment of the Burning Fire. (Al-Anfal: 50)

As for the souls of the believers,

God Almighty said
Indeed, those who have said, "Our Lord is Allah," and then remained on a right course—the angels will descend upon them, [saying], "Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised. We are your allies in worldly life and in the Hereafter, and you will have therein whatever you desire." Yourselves, and you will have therein whatever you request, * A lodging from a Forgiving, Merciful. (Fussilat: 30-32)

Those entrusted with protecting the servant
While he is at home and at home, while he is awake and asleep, and in all his states

Allah the Almighty said:
"He has guardian angels before him and behind him, guarding him by the command of Allah."[Al-Ra'd: 11]

And Allah the Almighty said:
"And He is the Dominant over His servants, and He sends guardian angels over you." [Al-An'am: 61]

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The guardian angels from Allah are the angels. Allah appointed them to guard a person from before and behind him. When the decree that Allah has decreed for him comes to pass, they leave him."

Mujahid said: “There is no servant but that he has an angel assigned to protect him in his sleep and while awake from the jinn, humans, and vermin. Nothing of them comes to him but the angel says to him: ‘Behind you,’ except something that God has permitted, and it befalls him.”

The One whos Entrusted with the Mountains

It is established in the hadith of Taif and the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) return from it that Gabriel came to him and said: "God has heard what your people said to you and how they responded to you. God has sent to you the Angel of the Mountains so that you may command him to do whatever you wish with them. The Angel of the Mountains called me and greeted me, then said: 'O Muhammad, that is what you wish. If you wish, I will crush the two mountains on them.'" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, I hope that God will bring forth from their loins those who will worship God and associate nothing with Him."

Those entrusted with recording deeds

They record the deeds of the servants, whether good or evil.

God Almighty says:
“And indeed, over you are keepers, * Noble and recording, * They know what you do.” [Al-Infitar: 10-12]

And God Almighty says:
“When the two receivers receive, one on the right and one on the left, one sitting. Not a word does he utter but there is a watcher by him, ready to record.” [Qaf: 17-18]

“The one sitting” means the one watching, and “the watcher ready” means the one who is watching and prepared for that.

The apparent meaning of these two verses is that He records every action and word that a person utters. Both apparent and hidden, they leave nothing out. Therefore, God Almighty said about the polytheists:

“And the record will be placed, and you will see the criminals fearful of what is within it, and they will say, 'Oh, woe to us! What is this record that leaves out nothing small or great but that it has recorded it?'” (Al-Kahf: 49)

It has been proven in some narrations that the angel on the right hand records the good deeds, while the angel on the left records the bad deeds. Al-Tabarani narrated in Al-Kabir with a good chain of transmission, saying: “The angel on the left lifts the pen from the Muslim slave who has committed a mistake for six hours. If he repents and seeks God's forgiveness for it, he discards it, otherwise, it is recorded as one.” And God knows best.

Those Whose charged with questioning and trial in the grave are Munkar and Nakir.

They are described as being two black and blue angels. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “When a dead person—or he said: one of you—is buried, two black and blue angels come to him. One of them is called Munkar, and the other Nakir.”

They are curly-haired
Al-Ajurri narrated on the authority of Abu al-Darda’ that he taught a man, and he said in his hadith: “Then two blue and curly-haired angels come to you. One of them is called Munkar, and the other is called Nakir.”

The Guardians of Paradise and the Guardians of Hellfire

Allah the Almighty said:
“And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups until, when they reach it, its gates are opened, and its keepers will say to them, ‘Did there not come to you messengers from among you, reciting to you the verses of your Lord?’” (Az-Zumar: 71)

until Allah the Almighty says:
“And those who feared their Lord will be driven to Paradise in groups until, when they reach it, its gates are opened, and its keepers will say to them, Peace be upon you. You have done well, so enter it to abide eternally. (Az-Zumar: 73)

Some traditions mention that the chief of the guardians of Paradise is named "Ridwan." There is no authentic hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) concerning this; only Allah knows best. As for Hellfire, the verses indicate the number of guardians (19) and the name of their leader and chief (Malik).

Allah says:
"Over it are nineteen" (Al-Muddaththir: 30)

Allah also says:

"And they will cry out, 'O Malik, let your Lord put an end to us!' He will say, 'Indeed, you will remain.'" (Az-Zukhruf: 77)

Among the descriptions of them is that they are rough and tough.

Allah the Almighty said:
“Over it are angels, stern and severe. They do not disobey Allah in what He commands them, but they do what they are commanded.” [At-Tahrim: 6]

Among the things mentioned in the Book about the rebuke of the people of Hell is what Allah mentioned in His Book, where He said:

“And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, ‘Call upon your Lord to lighten for us a day of the punishment.’ They will say, ‘Did not your messengers come to you with clear proofs?’ They will say, ‘Yes.’ They will say, ‘Then call upon them.’” The supplication of the disbelievers is nothing but error. [Ghafir: 49-50]

Those entrusted with the womb

On the authority of Ibn Mas'ud, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, the truthful and trustworthy, told us: “Each of you is gathered in his mother's womb for forty days as a drop of semen, then he becomes a clot for a similar period, then he becomes a lump of flesh for a similar period. Then an angel is sent to him, who breathes the spirit into him and commands him with four commands: to write down his provision, his lifespan, his deeds, and whether he will be wretched or blessed.”

The Bearers of the Throne

God Almighty said:

“Those who bear the Throne and those around it exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord.” [Ghafir: 7]

And He Almighty said:

“And above them, that Day, eight will bear the Throne of your Lord.” [Al-Haqqah: 17]

The One Entrusted with the Mountains

Those who give good tidings to the believer upon his death

As God Almighty said:

“Indeed, those who have said, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remained on a right course—the angels will descend upon them, [saying], ‘Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.’” [Fussilat: 30]

The angels who alternate among us: angels by night and angels by day.

The wandering angels who travel, following gatherings of remembrance.

Writers list the names of those going to Friday prayers.

Some take turns at prayer time.

Some shade martyrs with their wings.

Some accompany the funeral procession of righteous people.

Seventy thousand angels accompanied Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, may God be pleased with him.
